Conagra Foods Issues Nationwide Allergy Alert on a Limited Number of 15 oz. Tubs of Blue Bonnet Light Spread
Today, ConAgra Foods, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is voluntarily recalling a limited number of 15 oz. tubs of Blue Bonnet Spread that were inadvertently mispackaged—the lid is for regular Blue Bonnet Spread and the tub portion describes the product as Blue Bonnet Light Spread. The product inside of the tub is regular Blue Bonnet Spread. As a result, the product tubs do not declare the allergen whey (milk), as an ingredient.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. No allergic reactions have been reported.
This issue affects only 1,120 cases of a single lot code of the product. The product UPC on the tub is 27000-00930. The product lid will not have the blue ribbon graphic bearing the word “Light” that is found on the tub portion of the package. The rim of the lid will feature the batch code “2247923200″ and a Sell By date of March 18, 2010.
ConAgra Foods became aware of the issue after receiving a report from a store where the tub did not match the lid or the case.
The company is issuing a news release and an alert through the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) (www.foodallergy.org), in an effort to notify any potentially affected consumers.
ConAgra Foods will work with retail customers to ensure that the recalled products are removed from store shelves. In the event that consumers believe they have purchased products affected by this voluntary recall, they should return the product to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. Consumers with questions may call 866-518-4177 (9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. CST daily) or visit www.bluebonnet.com for more information.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – November 12, 2009 – Westminster, CA – GMP Herbal Products, Inc. has been informed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that Pai You Guo, a weight loss dietary supplement, sold and marketed by the firm contains undeclared drug ingredients. FDA lab analyses of dietary supplements distributed by the company were found to contain undeclared sibutramine, an FDA-approved drug used as an appetite suppressant for weight loss; and phenolphthalein, a solution used in chemical experiments and a suspected cancer-causing agent that is not approved for marketing in the United States. The FDA has not approved the Pai You Guo products as drug; therefore the safety and effectiveness of this product is unknown. All lots of the following Pai You Guo product are being recalled. The product is sold either in a box of 30 capsules or a bag of 10 g powder.
The products listed above were sold and distributed nationwide via the internet.

GMP Herbal Products, Inc. has taken this voluntary action because it is committed to providing accurate information about its products and because of the concern for the health and safety of consumers. Outbreaks of E. coli in America sicken people and are often linked to deaths, health officials say. Scary thing to think simply eating a burger could be so serious. A little knowledge and consistent practice of sensible safety measures can avoid this calamity.
Also note that you should always, ALWAYS avoid imported meats for safety reasons.
As a result of these concerns, questions about “ground meat” or “hamburger” are in the top five food topics of calls to the USDA’s Meat and Poultry Hotline.

What next…
America’s self-anointed food police have a new punching bag in their obesity crusade: fruit juice. We’re not making this up. The Los Angeles Times reported yesterday that a growing number of dietary do-gooders are now pointing their fingers at juice as a culprit for fattening waistlines:

Gov’t decides we should have more folic acid forced down our throats because studies say “hey look, folic acid prevents birth defects“. (Based on nothing more than in-the-gov’t-pocket so-called “researchers and medical pro’s).
Now, time proves this was more harmful than good (we’re not really surprised now, are we?)
Serious concerns include getting too much of this vitamin. So much so, in a recent study, men and women with a history of colon and rectal tumors who took high doses of folic acid were more likely to have three or more tumors, as well as other cancers.
Thanks, Government. You’re making people more sick – possibly deadly. Literally.
Here’s the explanation from scientists; scientists believe that folic acid protects the body from developing cancerous tumors by repairing errors in DNA. Yet too much may actually nuture the growth of tumors once they form. What’s important to note is that this delicate balancing act is mostly a problem with supplemental folic acid – the form of the vitamin added to supplements and fortified foods (thanks to gov’t interference and “we know it all” attitudes).
And…caution is also called for with vitamin A and beta-carotene, which have now been linked to an increased risk of lung cancer and death among smokers. Why? Because gov’t claimed it was GOOD for smokers.
Gosh, did they want…scratch that.
Oh and the push for selenium – too much of that is now shown to be the cause of an increased risk of certain skin cancers and type 2 diabetes.
What do we see an alarming surge in? Type 2 diabeties.
To quote Fox News…”I’ll report, you decide”.
But I will tell you this: You do NOT want Gov’t running health care!!! The gov’t just has no business whatsoever in our health care. That should be left to medically trained professionals and a 7-year old can even figure that one out.

Charleston Cookie Company Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Butter in Almond Cookies Produced for Dean & Deluca
Charleston Cookie Company of Charleston, SC is recalling packages of Almond Cookies which were sold as a component of the Dean and Deluca “Americana” cookie tin because the cookies contain undeclared butter (milk).
People who have allergies to milk products run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recalled Almond Cookies were distributed to Dean & Deluca for resale as part of their “Americana Cookie” collection. The product comes in a 6 ounce, clear plastic package sold with 5 other flavors of cookies in a 36 oz. silver tin. The product bears no code or UPC but was distributed to Dean & Deluca in August 2009 for sale in their catalog and online.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the milk-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not indicate the presence of butter (milk). Investigation indicates that the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s packaging process. The situation has been rectified by production of a new label with a complete ingredients listing.
Consumers who have purchased the product are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Charleston Cookie Company at 843-762-4185. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.

BODYBUILDING.COM Is Conducting a Voluntary Nationwide and International Recall of 65 Dietary Supplements That May Contain Steroids
As part of its ongoing cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”), Bodybuilding.com, LLC (the “Company”) announced today that it is conducting a voluntary nationwide and international recall of all lots and expiration dates of 65 dietary supplement products (the “Recalled Products”) described on the attached list, that were sold through the Company’s website, www.bodybuilding.com.
The FDA has informed the Company that it believes that the Recalled Products contain ingredients that are steroids. Specifically, the FDA has advised the Company of its concern that the Recalled Products may contain the following ingredients that are currently classified, or the FDA believes should be classified, as steroids: “Superdrol,” “Madol,” “Tren,” “Androstenedione,” and/or “Turinabol.” While the Company has not had an opportunity to independently confirm the FDA’s concerns that the Recalled Products in fact contain these ingredients, the Company is undertaking this voluntary recall in an abundance of caution.
Acute liver injury is known to be a possible harmful effect of using steroid-containing products. In addition, steroids may cause other serious long-term adverse health consequences in men, women, and children. These include shrinkage of the testes and male infertility, masculinization of women, breast enlargement in males, short stature in children, a higher predilection to misuse other drugs and alcohol, adverse effects on blood lipid levels, and increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and death.
The Company has not received to date any reports of adverse events in connection with the Recalled Products. Because of the possible harmful effects of using products containing steroids, the Company is cooperating with the FDA to conduct a recall of the products the FDA has identified as containing steroids. Prior to agreeing to carry the Recalled Products, the Company received assurances from all of the manufacturers of the Recalled Products that these products were properly classified as dietary supplements in compliance with federal law, meaning that these products did not contain any unlawful ingredient. Customers who have any of the Recalled Products in their possession should stop using them immediately and contact their physician if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking one or more of the ingredients listed above.
Any adverse events that may be related to the use of the Recalled Products should be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program online [at www.fda.gov/MedWatch/report.htm], by phone [1-800-FDA-1088], or by returning the postagepaid FDA form 3500 [which may be downloaded from www.fda.gov/MedWatch/getforms.htm] by mail [to MedWatch, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787] or fax [1-800-FDA- 0178].
The Company is committed to providing accurate information about its products. The Company is working voluntarily with the FDA in this recall process.
Consumers should return any unused products purchased on the Company’s site to the Company. For instructions on how to return Recalled Products please call (1-866-236-8417) or e-mail (service@bodybuilding.com) the Company.

Simple Sodium Solutions – Salt has been used to add flavor to foods, keep foods fresh, make icy roads and sidewalks safer and was even a form of currency in Ancient Rome (the word salary comes from the Latin word salarium – the money allowed to Roman soldiers for the purchase of salt). Managing sodium intake can seem daunting, but there are some surprisingly simple ways people can reduce the amount of sodium they consume as part of a healthful diet.

Strawberries can actually whiten your smile!
Combined with baking soda, strawberries become a natural tooth-cleanser, removing stains from coffee, red wine and dark sodas. Note: Be careful not to use this too often as the acid could damage the enamel on your teeth.
You’ll need:
1 ripe strawberry
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Crush the strawberry to a pulp, then mix with the baking powder until blended. Use a soft toothbrush to spread the mixture onto your teeth. Leave on for five minutes, then thoroughly with toothpaste to remove the berry-baking powder mix. Floss (to remove any seeds) and rinse. Use once a week.
