Hy-Vee Inc. Recalls Mislabeled Salad Dressing

Hy-Vee Inc. is voluntarily recalling some 12-oz. bottles of Hy-Vee HealthMarket Organic Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. The bottles are mislabeled and actually contain Hy-Vee HealthMarket Organic Sesame Ginger Dressing.

As a result of the mislabeling, the potential exists for undisclosed ingredients that may affect allergens.

Customers who purchased Hy-Vee HealthMarket Organic Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing coded “E3 Sell by Sep. 30 10” are encouraged to return the product for a full refund.

Fewer than 100 bottles were shipped to Hy-Vee stores before the error was discovered. The majority of inventory was still on shelves and has since been removed. The private label dressing is bottled by Chelten House Products Inc. in Bridgeport, N.J., where the mislabeling occurred.

Hy-Vee customers with additional questions may call the Hy-Vee product toll-free number at 800.289.8343.

Hy-Vee, Inc. is an employee-owned corporation operating 225 retail stores in seven Midwestern states. For 2008 the company recorded total sales of $6.2 billion, ranking it among the top 30 supermarket chains and the top 50 private companies in the United States.

CPI Foods, Inc Recalls Non Fat Dry Milk Because of Possible Health Risk

CPI Foods, Inc of Dallas, TX is recalling approximately 15,000 (net wt. 20g) packets of non fat dry milk because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Non Fat Dry Milk packets are components of CPI Foods shelf stable meal kits distributed to various community service companies in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, West Virginia, North Carolina, Nevada, and Kentucky.  These community service companies deliver CPI Foods shelf stable meal kits to consumers in their homes.  The meal kits are packaged in small white boxes that have no identifying information and contain single-serve food items.  Distribution of affected kits began in May 1, 2009.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products.

This recall was initiated after Plainview Milk Products Association announced a voluntary recall of it’s Instant Non Fat Dry Milk because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Consumers who have any meal kits or Non Fat Dry Milk packets are urged to destroy them.

Consumers with questions may contact the company at 214-634-9559, or visit www.cpifoods.com to see a list of the meals that contain the Non Fat Dry Milk.
