West Michigan Whitecaps is unleashing an enormous new hamburger – a 4,800-calorie burger!
The 4-pound, $20 burger features five beef patties, five slices of cheese, nearly a cup of chili and liberal doses of salsa and corn chips — all on an 8-inch bun.
Whitecaps spokesman Mickey Graham said the team hasn’t considered labeling the burger, which he says is a gimmick being promoted as a very unhealthy menu item.

FDA has developed these questions and answers (Q & A’s) to help consumers, health care practitioners, and the general public understand FDA’s actions regarding weight loss products contaminated with various prescription drugs and chemicals. Many of these products are marketed as dietary supplements. The following poem dates WAY back to the early 1930’s. I saw it printed in a Reminisce magazine and thought it was so cute – and showed the innocence back them. It’s silly while being sweet at the same time…
The Crust I Poked Under My Plate
Last night I didn’t eat up my crust.
I poked it under my plate.
I thought that no one would find it there,
But when it grew dark and late
And I was in bed all covered up tight,
All covered but just my head,
I saw that very same crust, I did,
Come walking up over my bed.
He had two big ears and great big eyes
And he grinned and he said to me,
“I’m the very same crust you poked under your plate.
You couldn’t hide me, you see.
You must never, never do that again.”
“All right, I won’t,” I said.
“I will eat you up to the very last crumb,
If you’ll please get down off of my bed.”
So he jumped off the bed and disappeared.
I have searched for him early and late,
But he comes no more.
For I never poke my crust in under plate.

The flu season is hanging on a bit longer than usual this year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CDC’s Tony Fiore says the season picked up its pace in February.
[Tony Fiore said] “Because of the late start to the flu season in the United States, we could continue to see influenza activity for some time. In some seasons, influenza activity has continued into May.”
Fiore says this season’s vaccine is an excellent match for all of the circulating influenza A viruses. And the A strains are the most common this year. He says the vaccine is not a good match for three quarters of the B viruses circulating, but influenza B is less common this year.

In September of 2008, (12 Sep 2008 ) a report came out stating, “High levels of salt and fat in school packed lunches, experts warn”
“Cheese, ham and bread were the most common sandwiches which also contain high levels of salt and fat.
“There are so many children who take packed lunches that there needs to be some official guidelines for parents or we will have an epidemic of health problems on our hands in a few years.”
The study, conducted with the British Dietetic Association, looked at the lunches of 120 primary school children across Cornwall.
Then they come up with recommendations for the kids lunches!
The Government’s School Food Trust recommends that children’s lunches should contain a maximum of 6.5g of saturated fat.
According to Foods Standards Agency guidelines children aged seven to 10 should have no more than 5g of salt in a day.
Fast forward to 16, March 2009:
‘Mealtime Gestapo’ confiscate junk food at primary school – Pupils with sweets, chocolate, fizzy drinks or full-fat crisps, had them confiscated and put in the staffroom.
Headmistress Deborah Metcalf said: “This stance is trying to work with parents to provide a healthy meal for their children.”
In 2007, Standish High School in Wigan banned pupils from leaving the school grounds at lunchtime, stopping them from going to fast food outlets.
They actually “searched and seized” kids lunches!Backtrack again – fear instilled in teachers – GASP!!! – Sugary snacks help school children concentrate
Researchers have found that a sugary drink improved primary school pupils’ memories and concentration.
Teachers fear the findings may promote junk food and the results confound suggestions that high-sugar diets cause hyperactivity.
This stuff is crazy! They think they’re “saving the children”? What on earth do they think they’re doing to these young, impressionable minds by searching and seizing their food – the food that mom and dad gave them? The food they most likely eat at home all the time. The food they’re used to?
And what about the generations before who grew up on down-home cooking with pork, steaks, venison, brats, etc. and lived long lives to tell about it – and teach their offspring their family cooking traditions and recipes?
I’m sorry, but public schools are there to educate young minds, not monitor what goes into their stomachs. This is an outrage.

There are indications that a good night’s sleep may reduce your risk of diabetes. Lisa Rafalson of the University at Buffalo in New York saw them in six years of data on sleep habits.
Rafalson compared people who got less than 6 hours of sleep a night during the work week to those who got 6 to 8 hours. She looked at their blood sugar, or glucose, levels. Elevated levels could indicate risk of diabetes.
“People who reported sleeping, on average, less than 6 hours a night were found to be four and one half times more likely to have elevated glucose levels.” – Lisa Rafalson
Rafalson says it could be another reason for people to get adequate sleep.
The study supported by the National Institutes of Health was presented at an American Heart Association conference.
