FDA Studying Tomatoes in Mexico for Salmonella
Remember the Tomato Warning Reminder? Well there is yet another update on the salmonella outbreak from tomatoes.
While Mexico Says Tests Found No Salmonella however, a team of inspectors from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration visited five Mexican farms in search of the source of a salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 1,000 people.
The FDA has not released the results of its tests in Mexico. It recently added peppers and cilantro to its list of foods under investigation in the outbreak.
As of July 9, the toll in the salmonella outbreak linked to tomatoes has passed 1,000 confirmed ill, making it the worst food outbreak in years. Now the government says some types of hot peppers may be implicated, too.
